Zheng Guogu: The Brain Nerves of The Sage
I found that sages were usually very calm. They had the wisdom to deal with the imbalance of the brain nerves, and they were able to bridge the gap between the left and right brains and produce a certain kind of photoelectric effect.
And artmaking to me is to reach the moment when the brainwaves of the sages synchronise with those of the viewers and when the frequencies of the two resonate with one another.

A sage, in the context of Zheng Guogu’s artistic practices, is not so much a particular figure as a manifestation of a certain spiritual personality (or spiritual facts), rather, it is a process of exploring the internal lightness towards a space of consciousness, as well as a process of acquiring wisdom. This is what Zheng Guogu wants to share in The Brain Nerves of the Sage. By observing the brain nerves of the sage, we may understand how they transcend the gap between the left and right brains and how they consequently produce a kind of photoelectric effect. We may be able to perceive and sense the messages from lives around us that are once blocked and restricted.
The U-space model appeared in The Brain Nerves series is drawn from the U-shaped cranial nerves that correspond to an energy operating system hidden in our conscious activities. It seems to be composed of a countless number of two-dimensional lines that can be turned into a three-dimensional body. Like the double helix structure of DNA, the space may be infinite-dimensional.
In the installation of The Brain Nerves of the Sage, we absorb all the surrounding development. Meanwhile, we are also the gathering point of all the relationships and all the information. This is like in an infinity mirror—it creates infinite reflections and continuous mutual “perceptions”. If there is a boundary for our imagination, it will be as far away as the starry sky, and as close as our own existence.
